Post war austerity forced a pre war design to be offered in updated form; surprisingly it would sell very well and continue to delight for another decade. All the T series MG’s scream character, as desirable today as they were from their introduction in 1936 with the TA. From 1945 10,002 TC’s were built, mostly for export Stateside (2000 went across the Atlantic) but their large numbers ensured the home market could also be satisfied. An improved gearbox from the earlier TB (which only ran to 379 chassis before hostilities began in 1939) the TC is instantly recognised featuring tall 19-inch spoked rims and 60 litre fuel tank attached to its rear. Its 1250cc ohv motor offered 54bhp at 5200rpm and fuelled by twin SU carbs almost 80mph could be enjoyed by those brave enough but also returning 27mpg. The four speed transmission benefits from synchro in 2nd, 3rd and 4th with direct steering and firm suspension the drive is often considered engaging, fun and much loved by the purist.

Country Classic Cars are very pleased to be offering this amazing MG TC on behalf of the current owner. The car comes with an extensive history file which covers the majority of the last 75 years including the original bill of sale made out to this TC’s first custodian Major Wolfe. Supplying dealer County Motor & Engineering were local to the Major in Craven Arms, Shropshire; the invoice total £541 10s 11d. Paperwork confirms it left the factory with a green interior and in period would have front grille finished in the same colour. The factory instruction manual priced at 10 shillings plus a rather unique Certified Castrol log book makes interesting reading, annual lubrication and filter replacement is listed whilst under Major Wolfe’s care covers the period from 1952 to 1959 when the car had travelled 57306 miles. Letters confirm ill health forced the Major to cease driving in 1961, the car was sold to Rosemarie Newton of Salop, Shropshire in September of that year. She would retain possession for a further 15 years and maintained contact with the TC beyond selling it on the 30 March 1976. New owner Robert Heppell no doubt saved the MG from the scrap dealers crane when he took on a ground up restoration with the help of Harrington Garage both in Evesham, Worcs. Images confirm the work took the TC down to the chassis which appears in excellent condition although several panels would require repair or replacement; the car was finally presented complete in 1985. Visually this TC has changed very little since the restoration and final pictures justify the claim its was ‘to concours’ standard; we would concur as the car still presents as a likely show winner nearly 4 decades later. Ken Wilson saw something he liked in a Classic Motor Monthly advert and became the next custodian, taking the TC to Kensing, Kent in March 1999. Further images fill a photo album, with catalogues and MG T register booklets plus too many invoices for us to list here. MOT history confirms very limited use since the mid 2000’s and just 317 miles over the past decade.

Here at Country Classic Cars we pride ourselves on offering an honest ‘warts and all’ appraisal of every vehicle we offer for sale, this avoids buyer disappointment often resulting from a lack of detail within sales adverts and our appraisal begins with the exterior. As previously mentioned this is an older restoration albeit carried out to the highest standard, but time takes its toll and small marks are noticeable when the finish is subjected to the closest inspection. We noted front edge of the bonnet on the o/s features a small chip and there are two stone chips on the o/s front wing. There is a blemish just below the windscreen on the passenger side and a couple of small areas where age has resulted in light paint micro-blisters. There are a few tiny chips at the base of both rear mudguards which is no surprise being directly in line for any stones flicked up by the rear wheels. Chrome is aged whilst retaining a bright finish, this adds to the overall honesty of the TC, which also enjoys a full hood in tan although our images feature the matching tonneau. Twin spare rims and recent Brockley rubber conclude the exterior and lead us to the cabin. Both leather and carpets offer minimal age and are undamaged, this interior will give any future custodian many years of service. The dash veneer is excellent and each of the beautiful Jaeger clocks operate as they should. Beneath twin bonnets sits the original four-cylinder motor, it presents and performs very well. As with all classics we supply, a visit to our workshops for a full check over and tune will be carried out prior to any new owner collection.
