The final incarnation of the iconic E Type range enjoyed the incredible Jaguar V12 engine, a design prospect that saw the genius of Walter Hassan return from the Coventry Climax F1 programme and team up with Harry Mundy. Initially, Jaguar requested Claude Baily to build a V12 for their XJ13 Le Mans racer but the idea was shelved in 1966. Its basis would result in a magnificent power plant that was primarily aimed at the market ‘Stateside’ with its flared arches and longer wheelbase to accommodate; although with aluminium head and block this all new design weighed just 80lbs more than the old 6 cylinder unit. In the 2+2 body, figures of 276bhp @ 5850rpm and 150mph tell just half the story, coupled to the rare 4 speed manual 62mph comes up in just 6.4 seconds.
One of several classics recently released from the Johnson Kane Collection, all of which have remained untouched in storage for many years; this E Type shows 10,880 miles (cannot be verified) has been re-commissioned by Country Classic Cars and drives exceptionally well with excellent oil pressure and no signs of over-heating. The clutch is smooth and bites at half travel whilst the silent transmission offers slick and precise changes. Power steering works correctly and on the move this Jaguar is sure-footed and minus any unwanted rattles; after years remaining idle there are certainly improvements that can be made but the basic mechanics of this E Type are very impressive. The service history is limited although this car has enjoyed substantial amounts invested with minimal use from the early 2000’s.
2005 @ 5631 miles invoice total £736 – mainly service work
2005 @ 5746 miles invoice total £597 – new silencers
2006 @ 6221 miles invoice total £3880 – some panel work, rear calipers and rear shocks
2007 @ 8175 miles MOT
2009 @ 8589 miles invoice total £4985 – new sills, wheel arches & lower wings
2011 @ 8597 miles MOT
2014 @ 10636 miles became part of the Johnson Kane collection … put into storage … currently the car is showing 10880.
During the re-commission process the E Type has been inspected for corrosion with only minor areas (mainly on the bonnet) of any concern. We have photographed the car in detail on the underside and also tried to capture any exterior blemishes, small dents etc. The interior offers some age but only the driver’s seat back requiring a small repair on the entry side, the o/s footwell carpet is worn whilst all the panels and dash trim are in great order. A great opportunity to own a legend of British motoring in its ultimate form; the fantastic V12 power plant with the very rare manual option. This example can be enjoyed now and improved when time permits and to confirm how honest and genuine this 2+2 presents and drives, we will supply the car with 12 months MOT. The auction will begin on Friday 14th August and run over ten days at www.berlinetta-auctions.co.uk, Country Classic Cars presenting the E Type on behalf of its current owner and will offer viewing for interested parties and information via email or phone. Genuine interest is most welcome, please message with your email address for multiple detailed images and walk-round video; we will forward the file via ‘We Transfer’ a free to use and safe service. Country Classic Cars operate by appointment only and within current Government guidelines. Please bear the current situation in mind, especially with regards to test drives.
